Most critics of Ron Paul Just do not Get Ron Paul

11 07 2007

After viewing many of the negative articles on Ron Paul I am noticing a common theme among them. The common thread seems to me at least to be a lack of understanding of the underlying philosophy behind Ron Paul’s views. If the author of a given negative article has not studied the work of Ludwig Von Mises they will not have educated themselves enough to develop an understanding of the philosophical basis for his policy views on Money and Taxes.

If an author of an article critical of Ron Paul’s position on most of his other policy stances has not read and does not fully understand the Constitution of the United States they also will not have the necessary philosophical framework to understand his position on most other issues. To understand the Constitution reading the Constitution is not enough in fact. The author must have also read and understand The Federalist Papers in order to understand the original intent of the founders of the United States of America.

Without this basic educational framework fully absorbed and understood by an author this person can not understand the positions of Ron Paul adequately to make an argument against Ron Paul’s positions that will hold up to scrutiny. I would urge the authors of the articles I have read that are critical of the views of Ron Paul to take the time to immerse yourself in the information linked in this article so that you can fully understand the positions of the person who you are being critical of. In that way at least when those of us who have done our homework read your words we will know that you are writing from an honest and enlightened position and not one simply ignorant of what you write about.

I know that research into an article is hard work. It is tempting to take shortcuts and simply parrot the flawed reasoning that others have used in the past if it fits with your preconceived notions on the subject of your literary work. It is worth it to take the time and do the homework so that your take on an issue is relevant and demonstrates honest reasoning and informed opinion. If you are someone who is simply interested in Ron Paul as a candidate and want to understand his views better I also would suggest the linked information in this article for your review. We need to help freedom to endure in this land of the free. It does requires some work on our part to study and understand the genius of the founders of the United States of America. Ron Paul has done his homework and it is clear to anyone else who has, that he is simply consistent in the application of the profound reasoning and intelligence that made this country the great nation that the world had until very recently greatly respected.

Well said! Great blog, libertyman. Hayek, Mises, and Rothbard (not to mention Ayn Rand and George Smith) should be required reading for anyone who wants to understand our world and debate intelligently about any economic or philosophic issue. Unfortunately, very few of us have even heard of these great thinkers. I’m doing my best to spread these ideas one person at a time within my friends and family, and now even wider with my blog.

Keep up the great work!
